tutorialsforartists:

I just went back through over 900 liked posts and dug out all the art tutorials so i can keep track of them. I guess this might be helpful to some of you guys, so here you go.

Here we go then!

Freeware

Alchemy - this is a really fun program. You play around making abstract shapes until you start to see something in them, kind of like a Rorschach test. Then you use the shapes as a base to draw it from.
MyPaint - a pretty decent painting program that also has the benefit of working on Unix systems.
openCanvas 1.1 - I haven’t used openCanvas in years but it was a nice program with a pretty unique feel to it.
ArtRage - Only used this a couple of times donkey’s years ago just before I got oC, but I’ve heard good things about it.
The GIMP - In a similar vein to Photoshop, but free. I couldn’t get on with it when I tried it out a few years ago, but it’s pretty popular and is available on Unix systems and Macs.

Sketchbook copic: a bit different program

Not-free-ware

Photoshop - Standard painting fare. Probably the most flexible program (particularly the latest versions) but not designed to act in a “natural” way. If you’ve used it for painting versus something like Painter you know what I mean. Who the fuck pays for it though? Google “Photoshop tumblr masterpost” and take your pick.
Paint Tool Sai - Far more affordable and definitely worth paying for if you can. The brushes are very decent (especially when they’ve been tweaked a little), the gui is simple and intuitive, and I dare you to find a program with which making smooth lineart is easier.
Corel Painter - My program of choice for most things. More tools than you could ever possibly use and pretty cheap on a student license, providing that you can prove you’re a student! It’s got a few bugs but if you want realism or a more natural feel than PS or SAI this is the program for you.

due to an overwhelming like of my use of textures on my caps blog i decided to make a texture masterpost for anyone interested. this includes where i learned about textures and sites where there are an abundance of textures (ones i use most often).

tutorials
google is always going to be your best friend when you need to know how to do something in photoshop. yeah, i know it’s kind of stupid recommending google but i don’t care.
psdtuts - this site is probably the most popular and coincidentally the most useful. i would check out the video tutorials because those are how i learned how to do most of what i know.
flickr tutorial - this tutorial is the same approach i go about editing caps. it’s very different but the steps are the same.
psdlearning - another site like psdtuts but not as popular (at least i don’t think it is)
i really wish i could add more sites here but (and i hate to be one of these people) i just experimented until i got something that looked halfway decent. the only advice i feel like i can give to people is download all the textures ever and work with them.
textures
these are ones that i use most often, it is not limited to.
first and foremost i suggest searching through deviantart, flickr and livejournal. there are amazing people out there with a lot of things to offer.
fuckyeahresources - honestly go here and download everything (if you think “but i’d never use that texture!”, you probably will later on then again i hoard textures so maybe you shouldn’t take my advice.)

some cartoony doodles and pose practice. I really should use my art tumblr more.

infinityshen:

I just figured that I should make a nice color palette chart from the GIMP palette that I have saved of the God Tier outfits’ color schemes.
Each palette is seven colors; the first two are shades for the hood color, the next two are (typically) for the upper torso, the last two are (also typically) for the lower torso, and finally the last color is the symbol’s color.

I am sort of doing the magical girl challenge? it’ll slowly get picked away at.

Day one: Generic

she’s obviously heart themed. the staff in her hand is the sparkling kokoro lolly staff of justice and love!!!! I took some influences from Sailor moon and Mahou Shoujo Madoka. Her magical helper is a “love bird” hahaha.

Day two: environmental.

its Lorax/truffula tree themed. I don’t even care. the Lorax is her magical helper. o___o

some more digimons

my two closest online friends have massive chests okay shut up.

in any case, Ellen has a pet frog, so obviously I based her digimon off that! I thought frogs in vests with banjos were funny, then I gave her a hat too. I thought Ellen would appreciate that. then I remembered that her frog was a girl so I have her a bathing suit top and bottom because it felt weird idk. she also has a teeny tiny tail, go her. I figure Ellen would be the crest of reliability, seeing as she’s so good at work and stuff!!

Chae is my little lamb but she likes crows so her digimon don’t really relate well but fuck you I made them. I like to think that Crawmon is super helpful but is considered bad luck by most digimon. I think she’d probably have the Crest of courage :’).

Whoops look at these shitty sketches.

I thought it would be fun to make some art of my friends and I in the Digimon universe with personalized Digimon. I asked them what animals they liked and picked one for each. I have a sneaking suspicion there is already a Goamon but I didn’t find anything when I looked it up so oh well.

in any case, I’m in Teal, with my Digimon being based off an Australian mammal called a sugar glider. they’re kawaii as all heck. I’d probably have the crest of Hope or Reliability or something I guess???

Andrea is in Pink, and her digimon is based off a Goat. I tried to draw one based off a hedgehog but omg those things are really hard to draw so I gave up. I also gave Goamon a sort of ying yang vibe to her so. I had this idea that she’d shoot energy beams from her horns. yeah. Andrea would have the crest of kindness fo sho.

Amanda’s in Purple, with her Digimon being based off a Corgi. also Goggiemon is probably my favourite. that bitch is fabulous. Anyway, Corogimon is pretty darn cute I think, but doesn’t really look like a digimon so I might come back to it and fix it later. Amanda would definitely have the crest of knowledge.

Tim’s in Green! He’s actually a bit older than everyone else, but I put him in the same age group for simplicity. in any case, I didn’t know what he looked like at 14 so I winged it. His Digimon was based off a white Bengal tiger and Gabumon. I personally thing Felixmon looks the most like a digimon lol, but oh well! I like his face. Tim would probably have the Crest of Light, I think. Light or Sincerity maybe.

in any case, there you have it!
